Welcome to the Graeme Dentith blog!
A dentist and lover of sailing
3rd February 2009

Hello and welcome.

Hi and welcome to the very first entry on Graeme Dentith’s blog.. Those of you who know me will appreciate the vague nautical reference, as it is well known to most that I love sailing. In fact, I’d rather be sailing than pretty much anything else, especially as I can no longer ski, doctors orders since I broke my knee…while sailing!

Typical, ski for 20 years without an injury, break my knee jumping off a boat, and that’s it, no more sliding down mountains. At least they can’t stop me sailing.

Anyway, the idea of this site, it seems to me, is to put down my thoughts, ideas and anything else that appeals in this online format to hopefully inform and entertain those who read it, so here goes.

Firstly, background, if you’ve got this far you obviously have come via our Durham City Smiles website and have an idea who I am, and as some of you may be long standing patients from, dare I say it, the last 24 years (yes it has been that long folks, I’ve now even been referred to as a responsible senior member of the profession!!) you may know some or most of this. For those of you who are new to me and may be checking up prior to contacting us, I say give me a ring, I’m actually quite a nice guy (for a dentist) as I say, I started in practice in Durham in July 1985 at the Bridge House Dental Surgery under my two bosses, Les Smith and Chris Taylor, where I stayed for 13 years, the last 10 as a partner, before moving on to Metcalfe House which I bought in February 1998. In the 24 years since initially qualifying I’ve continued to learn, taking part in many courses over the years to further my knowledge and experience. I’ve also put something back into the profession, having taught for 10 years at the Dental School. Now, my main focus is Durham City Smiles, our relatively new venture incorporating the website of the same name, and this blog.

I, along with my colleagues, Nicola and Eddie, have decided that there is a niche in the market in Durham for cosmetic and implant dentistry, and we think we are the ones to fill it. So that’s where we are at.

It is my intention to regularly update this blog with ideas, photos or just anecdotes which I hope will inform and amuse, so for now, cheerio.
